Who we are
Our research in infection and immunology extends from theoretical and experimental studies to clinical research and epidemiology, and includes approaches ranging from analysis of single molecules to the study of populations. Complex problems can only be solved by cooperation between basic and applied sciences. We offer, through our faculty and institutions, strong basic research that is complemented by translational and patient-based clinical research to identify new diagnostics and therapeutics. This unique combination of broad knowledge and in-depth expertise of the ZIBI community is our main strength that lays the foundation for high-level education and training.
The ZIBI Graduate School allows researchers to join forces regarding coordinated recruitment of excellent international graduates, organization of a common infrastructure and development of binding standards for thesis supervision and mentoring. We a have a finely-tuned and well-organized graduate education scheme through the ZIBI Graduate School, which is under the roof of both major universities in Berlin and supported equally by Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Our overall goal for the ZIBI GS is to prepare students for a scientific career in infectious diseases and immunology. Crossdisciplinary educational experiences along with the interdisciplinary nature of infection biology and immunology research fosters innovative thesis projects.
